![]() ![]() This game is punishing: There are no save points before bosses and a loss will mean restarting a dungeon all over again with all that experience lost. The transition between jobs includes a period of downtime that (I believe) decreases statistics, so it'll take a few battles just to get over that every time you switch jobs. This game is hard: I found myself having to grind a bit every time I come across a new area and I'm sure you will want to too, especially when you get new jobs. You may skip this or you may just want to take them in before setting off on your own. ![]() I thought I might just lay down a couple of hints and tips before you begin playing, just to let you know what you are up against here. I will, of course, give some recommendations as we go along. If the jobs you have aren't working for you, then feel free to swap them at any time to change your strategy. So a Warrior will have good attacking power while a White Mage can use a range of healing spells. ![]() They each have their own differences that define them. If you want to come even close to beating this game, then you are going to have to explore these different job classes to find combinations that work for you. ![]() You also have a Quicksave option if you want a break.Īs for the Job System, there are certainly more complex versions of this in the future.Įach of your four characters will start off as a Freelancer (I'll discuss in more detail when you get them in the walkthrough). If you die, then you will be back at the last save so don't forget to double check you have done so before entering a dungeon. Whenever this game is brought up, this is most people's memory of this experience, particularly when it comes to the final dungeon. This is, I think, the only Final Fantasy where you can't save in dungeons, period. I think newer series like Bravely Default may make this one slightly painful to go back to. This can make battles slightly slow, especially random battles but there is enough customisation in the background to keep you interested. Also, I had no friends who played this game at the time of writing using the DS version so there will still be no Mognet sidequest stuff here, sorry!įinal Fantasy III is from a time of little complexity in gameplay mechanics so there is little to discuss here.īattles are turn based so you'll be given time to select commands that range from attacking, guarding, using a job exclusive ability to changing formation and equipment. Just a couple of notes, I doubt I've found every chest in the game so if I've missed any then I apologise. As far as I am aware, there are few differences between these ports apart for the addition of a few features which might be missing here. However, much of this Walkthrough assumes you are playing the now labelled '3D remake', available on the PSP, IOS and through Steam. The earlier Japanese versions of this game likely hold a few differences, but I imagine there is little in there that wouldn't translate to much of this walkthrough. If nothing else, it is a game holds a lot of meaning to me.įor this walkthrough, I originally used the Nintendo DS version of the game. Even though time has forgotten this entry, and even this version, in recent times, there is a lot here to recommend. This game features traditional turn based combat with the skeletal elements of a Job System, one that would come to be built upon in many subsequent Square Enix games. Hello, and welcome to my walkthrough for Final Fantasy III.Īfter many years being unavailable in English, Final Fantasy III was finally brought to us in this enhanced, 3D form with a Nintendo DS port, allowing many to go 'oh there's a reason this took so long to get here' and forgetting about it quickly after. In recent years, I have endeavoured to improve this whenever I have gone back to play this game. Quick note: This walkthrough was once a mess of tasteless jokes written by a high school student. ![]()
